Autumn Quilt-spiration : Planning Your Fall Quilt Palette

I don’t know about you, but there is just something about the lighting change and the crisp chill in the air (if you are lucky enough to live in a place that cools down before October) that gets me in the mood for quilting! A Pumpkin Spice latte in hand also doesn’t hurt. As summer draws to an end, it’s time to start planning out all the cozy quilts for the new season. It’s no secret that I am a sucker for deep earthy autumn tones and I love incorporating them into my quilts. I decided to share some color inspiration with you to help you kickstart your fall quilting journey! This also gives you a little peek into how I create color palettes for my quilts. Check out my blog post “Color Inspiration from the World Around Us" to see how I extract colors from photographs to choose fabrics for my quilts. Another great tool to help with this is my digital coloring pages, where you can pre color any of my patterns prior to cutting into any fabric!

Now lets jump in and plan a quilt!

*The following color pulls and mockups are all made using Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton*

This photo screams cozy autumn afternoon to me. I can almost smell that warm tobacco candle! I loved the subtle pop of color that the green vase added to the composition of this photo, so I felt it could create the perfect cozy quilt.

This photo has me ready for sweater weather! If you are more into warm hues for autumn, this is the palette for you.
I think this palette would make the perfect pumpkin patch/hay ride quilt.

A nature walk on a damp autumn evening anyone? The mix of warm and cool colors in this photo is the perfect combination!

Purple is not typically a color I incorporate into my quilts, but this palette would be perfect for a spooky season quilt!

Who knew pumpkins came in so many colors! This is another palette that would make the perfect quilt for a trip to the pumpkin patch!

I hope these mockups give you tons of cozy inspiration. I always feel a new spark for quilting this time of year. So grab your favorite warm drink, light a yummy candle, and start planning out your next quilt!
